Milky Way will Crash, Head-On with Andromeda

Today, May 31 2012 researchers found that our "Galaxy" Milky Way is on a head-on collision course with a similar-sized galaxy, the Andromeda Galaxy which is also know as M31. This will create a new hybrid of galaxy that is different from the form of our own Milky Way Galaxy, a spiral galaxy.

"The Andromeda galaxy is heading straight in our direction," "The galaxies will collide, and they will merge together to form one new galaxy." Van der Marel said. Here's a video they've made that shows what will happen in this catastrophic future event.

But don't worry too much, this will only happen after 4 billion years.
